We Can All Do It!!
There are studies that have been done on how one can stay
motivated and how to change your lifestyle, and then there are
testimonials. I prefer to read or hear
about someone’s personal experiences over reviewing statistics-for me… it’s
just more motivating, it gets me thinking, “if she can do it, so can I!”
One of the best things that ever happened to me was landing
a job at a gym when I was 17. I met new
friends who were personal trainers, aerobics instructors, and nutritionist--
they began to educate me on lifting techniques and how to use the equipment in
the gym properly; this all perked my interests in working out and developing
healthy eating habits. By the time I was
20, I was an AFAA Certified Aerobics Instructor.
It always makes me happy when I see people around me try to
incorporate healthier habits into their life, but often times I see them become
easily discouraged; I see their best attempts fizzle. Now I may not be an expert, but I can say
that since I've been a teenager, I have always maintained a healthy lifestyle
and body-weight and I don’t think I could have done it had I not applied the
following:
ENVIRONMENT- Yep- that’s right! If your around people who are always eating
out or going to fast food restaurants or your living at home and eating your
mom’s delicious homemade cuisines—your for sure going to have a difficult time
sticking to eating what’s right for your body!
Even though it sounds corny, you may just have to suck it up and explain
to those who are closest to you how important it is to you to develop and
maintain a healthy lifestyle and that you would appreciate their support.
When I lived at home my mom always had tortilla’s laying around, white
bread, rice &beans, dips, chips LOL…YUCK!!
It wasn’t until I moved out and started buying my own groceries was I
really in control! Being on my own made
it easier for me to eat the things my body deserves!
DOCUMENT- THAT’S RIGHT! As silly
as it sounds, keep a food journal and log everything you eat and what time you
eat it. If you want to make some serious
life changes you should be aware of what your feeding your body and when. Use this diary as a road map and to decipher
what you need to start changing.
When I first started doing this I was
annoyed!! Frustrated that I had to take
time out of my day, but I was worth it.
When and what to eat became as easy as ABC’s.
SMALL
GOALS- Some goals
are just plain unrealistic – unless of course you’re some type of
Houdini!! Seriously, though…starting off
making small changes, write them down and cross them off once completed. Example: weeks 1&2 - try eliminating any
drinks BUT water; weeks 2&4 -no fast-food (plus your weeks 1-2 goals) and
so on.
Doing this was rewarding to me because once
I knew I was able to do my first short term goal, I knew I was ready for my
second, third etc!
MOTIVATION- Find things that KEEP you
motivated—things that make you want to keep pushing yourself towards your
goals!!
I love subscribing to magazines, posting pictures, downloading new
music to work out to (crucial), and finding inspirational quotes J
I’m no expert, but I hope my suggestions have sparked a new
idea or maybe encouraged you to live a healthy lifestyle—I love to encourage J
